Set in a dorm room, DAISY CHAINS follows five teenage girls at a summer camp. But when a potential pregnancy is revealed the seemingly perfect camp starts to unravel. As one by one the girls are forced to take an ultrasound, suspicions arise and when a folder is stolen containing files on each girl, it turns out the camp isn't the only one keeping secrets.
Friendships are destroyed, new alliances are drawn and time is running out. Each girl is faced with one question. Should she stay or try to escape?
DAISY CHAINS is the latest work from award-winning playwright Sarah Richardson. Runner Up in the Platform Presents Playwright’s Prize 2024.
TPE supported early stage R&D made possible thanks to Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice grants. We are thrilled to be supporting the onward development of DAISY CHAINS, available for production from 2025.
Writer Sarah Richardson comments:
With the rise in male violence against women and girls, DAISY CHAINS is an exploration of where does it end? Drawing on realities of the past, the play looks at what a possible future could be for teenage girls if the violence, hate and continued campaign to control their bodies goes unchecked. It is a warning shot as well as a reflection of the pain, shame and blame girls are currently being put under. However, like Pandora's box, DAISY CHAINS also offers a glimmer of hope. Through the warnings comes a resounding message of the power of girls' voices, the strength within friendships and the resilience of girlhood.
TPE Artistic Director Colin Blumenau comments:
On behalf of The Production Exchange I am delighted to be working with another in a long line of early-career writers. Sarah's voice is individual, dynamic and contemporary. I'm certain that her play will benefit from the work we are preparing to do with it and that there are very exciting times ahead for DAISY CHAINS.
