Shahid Iqbal Khan

Shahid Iqbal Khan is “a talented writer, capable of accurately striking contrasting notes” (Whatsonstage) and a “writer who asks big questions through deep and detailed characters” (Lucy Morrison of Royal Court Theatre in The Stage).

As one of the winners of the Peggy RamsayFilm 4 bursary Award for 2024, Shahid will be attached to Paines Plough for a year with the aim of creating at least one new full-length play.

Shahid is one of the recipients of the 2023 Peter Shaffer Commission from the National Theatre and The Octagon, Bolton. He is also one of the writers on the Genesis Almeida New Playwrights, Big Plays Programme for 2023-2025.

His play Djinnity was shortlisted for the George Devine Award in 2023.

His first full-length drama for BBC Radio 4  Love Across The Ages, premiered in September 2022 and is still available to listen to online. BBC Writersroom added the text of this play to their script library.

Shahid's play, 10 Nights, was nominated for an Olivier Award in 2022 for Outstanding Achievement in Affiliate Theatre. The play was revived by Phizzical Productions in 2024. It will return for a national tour in January 2025.
